I have see many employers willing to accommodate some mistakes and errors of new domestic staff upon resumption. But how many mistakes does it take until it becomes too many? When should an employer start to get worried and move in to intervene in the situation?

Even for new domestic staff, there should be a limit to the errors and also quality of errors made. It isn’t normal when mistakes become a daily occurrence, and may be a  result of a much larger issue at hand.

Below are Seven(7) areas you should look into when you cannot keep up with the mistakes and errors of a new or existing staff.

1. VALIDATE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS
I know that domestic staff told you she had 2 years of experience and knew all about household technology or she has a high school diploma, but she may have lied. So it’s time to reconfirm by re-wording your question or discussion, so you can uncover where the real problem lies.

2. DELETE AMBIGUITY
Become very specific when you are giving instructions. If any statement you make sounds ambiguous, clarify what you mean by mentioning specific names and tasks.

3. CONFIRM COMMUNICATION
Don’t just dish out instructions, ensure that she understands. Confirm by asking her to repeat what she heard and understood from you. Also confirm that she understands your SOP and Chore Schedules, Meal Planner etc.

4. ASSURE HER
A new staff can get intimidated by the new environment that they begin to doubt themselves and lose confidence in their abilities. Assure your domestic staff that you see the value she can bring and you’re happy to have her on board your home management’s ship.

5. ASK IF SHE WANTS TO LEAVE
Some domestic staff do not know how to resign, so they want to do something bad consistently, so you can fire them. Make it easy by asking her, assure her of your best intentions in letting her go and wishing her well.

6. AVOID INFORMATION OVERLOAD
Don’t dish out so many things verbally at once. Give information in chunks and repeat point 3.

7. CONFIRM THAT THE JOB MATCHES THE EXPECTATION SHE HAD BEFORE RESUMPTION.
Some people anticipate domestic staffing to be easier than it is and them they start to mess up after resumption. Reconfirm if what they are experiencing is what they expected and what they can handle.

We know these seven tips would come in handy. If you are currently experiencing this, go implement these seven points and let us know how it goes.
